Background

Furzana has worked with people for over twenty years, as a professionally qualified counsellor, careers adviser, youth/community worker and a personal adviser, this has included working in the community, medical/health fields, schools and further/higher education establishments.   She has extensive experience of working with people at all levels and ages, such as doctors, teachers, psychologists, social workers and other professionals, students, employers, training providers and many other agencies.  Having worked abroad,  in many different locations and geographical areas including affluent and socially disadvantaged communities, she has a good grasp of different cultures and communities.  Furzana is also bi-lingual and can speak Urdu which is a major language amongst Indian/Pakistani communities.
Furzana has worked with individuals and groups, she has experience of delivering training, managing people, organising events such as staff, education and training conferences. Much of Furzana’s work has been on a 1:1 basis with young people and adults, this being a particular area of expertise.
She has also managed an equality and diversity project an area in which she has a special interest and has kept abreast of changes through continuing professional development.
Furzana has experience of working with the harder to help and people with multitude issues.  She is trained in child protection and Safeguarding in line with the government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda.

Approach

Furzana is a Person Centred Counsellor which puts the client at the centre of the therapy, PCC (Person Centred Counselling) is an approach which works with core conditions, including, empathy, respect, congruence. PCC takes a non-judgemental approach. It embraces the therapeutic relationship and puts it at the heart of successful therapy. Furzana works sensitively with her clients to guide them through their difficulties.
PCC works with the client to resolve their issues by exploring, unravelling  and reflecting thereby aiding the client to have a better understanding of themself their experiences  and also of significant others. It heightens self awareness and aids personal growth. Therapy is delivered in a safe space which is non-judgemental, non-directive and confidential

Stress/anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationships, abuse, (domestic, sexual) trauma, addictions, low self esteem, terminal illness, obsessive compulsive disorder, workplace bullying and harassment.

Furzana is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abides by its code of ethics.
